| Q13. Do we have any
writing style guide? |
| You should keep in mind the following: |
- Use only single quotation marks.
- Minimize the use of, and do not capitalize the articles "a," "an" and "the."
- Don't be afraid of short 1-2 sentence paragraphs.
- Each time the topic changes, you need a new paragraph.
- Avoid unnecessary capital letters.
- Generally, only capitalize formal titles of senior, high-profile individuals.
- Use figures for hours of day, ages, sums of money, street numbers, percents, dates, votes and scores.
- Never use "%" instead write "percent".
- Use a.m., p.m. lowercase with periods between letters.
- Abbreviate the month (Jan., Feb., Aug., Sept., Oct., Nov., Dec.) when the date is included. Use the commas. Dec. 25, 2001 or in January (no date)
- We should always encourage debate in our writing.
- We should empower people to break away from the existing
shackles of mindset created by the present press.
- We should present our contribution from as many sources and
be as divergent as possible.
- We should not write our contributions as a lecture but as a
daily conversation we have with our friends over a cup of
tea/coffee and cigarettes.
- We must always bear in mind that our contribution should have
the intent, if not the power, to affect the thought-process of
others - it should be original and NOT boring.
- The contribution should not only be the best but also
truthful in principle. Thereafter, we should not rest on our
laurels but take feedback and criticism and make it better.
- We should consider ourselves global citizen and not just
the citizens of the country we reside in. That way anything we
write will be meant for all the like-minded be it from Asia,
Europe or any other part of the globe.
- We should actively seek to look for disagreement between us
and the traditional media and between our opinions with other's
opinion and communicate through writing to give a chance for
others to hear what we think and have to say and what others
have to say.
- We must always try to connect with like-minded people not
through faith or ideology but through our observation and
insight. That means that we should not be writing for people
of our country or religion but for people who may be different
from us in every aspect but in our thoughts.
- We should take care not to deliberately hurt sentiments or
defame others.
- We should keep the articles short and sweet - 400~500 words
is almost always a good length for both writer and reader.
- We should get to the point: tell readers right away what you
plan to write about.
- You should think of your angle and stick with it.
- We should write simply : a short word is always preferable
to a thesaurus inspired one.
- Be positive, specific, and decisive.
|
| Buzz247 is a initiative for encouraging everyone to
express their un-censored thoughts - the good, the bad, the ugly and the
nasty, anything that is happening around us, anything that affects the world
and anything that we don't agree with others but cannot express freely in
front of others or do not get the platform to do so. |
| Objective of the website |
- To provide a platform where every individual can become a reporter
either by covering or commenting on events according to his/her
liking.
- To act as an alternative media by writing/questioning issues
that the main stream media have been highlighting as a part of
their daily coverage but have not raised any scathing,
thought-provoking questions.
- To allow readers from all parts of the world to bring
together the divergent cultural and geographical perspective
by publishing even very local stories about individual town
from own countries.
- To spread words of inspiration/experience with others if
experienced or witnessed.
