Mumbai: Sony has launched 655 grams and about a half inch thin, VAIO X, marked as the world's lightest notebook. Along with this, Sony India has also announced its plans to capture 20 percent of the consumer notebook market with product design, channel expansion and exciting communication strategy.

The company aims to expand its channel network to 1,000 counters by 2010 across 200 cities up from 500 sales counters in 2008. The exclusive brand shops for VAIO will also increase to 20 counters by 2010

For assisting the customers to express themselves in colour, Sony has brought VAIO CW, and for casual computing, VAIO W netbook has been improved with improved specifications.

The company's target market share in the consumer notebook segment is 15 percent in 2009 with an aim to reach 20 percent by 2010 with the launch of the new VAIO models. It expects to sell 1,20,000 notebooks by 2009. The company has 500 sales counters at present, as it plans to take the figure to 1,000 by 2010. It also aims to increase the exclusive brand shops of VAIO to 20.

Equipped with 'Silverthorne' Intel Atom processor, this ultraportable laptop comes with pre-loaded with Windows 7 Professional (32-bit). The notebook is offered in two models; VPCX113KG for Rs. 64,990 and VPCX117LG for Rs. 84,990. Both have one year international warranty.

VAIO X's model VPC113KG will pack 45nm process 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 'Silverthorne' processor, as the VPC117LG model includes 2GHz Intel Atom Z550 processor.

Featured as lower power Atom chips, both processors support Intel Virtualization as well as Hyper Threading technology. Apart from that, Sony has 2GB DDR2 RAM and 64GB SSD in the base model (VPCX113KG) while other model (VPCX117LG) has 128GB SSD storage.

The notebook comes with 11.1-inch LED Backlit display offering 1366x768 pixel resolution enough to playback 720p HD videos. The graphics support is offered through Intel GMA 500 mobile integrated graphics. Though the notebook has Ethernet and VGA out ports, it lacks HDMI. It has aluminum isolation keypad. Also, the trackpad supports multi-touch gestures life flips, zoom and others.

The notebook has 3.5 hours battery life in VPCX113KG model but with optional LL battery pack can provide power up to 14 hours. The other VPCX117LG model has 6.5 hours of battery life which can be increased to 16 hours with optional LL battery pack.
